Equality Impact Assessment (EIAs)

An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is an evidence-based approach designed to help organisations ensure that their policies, practices, events and decision-making processes are fair and do not present barriers to participation or disadvantage any protected groups from participation. This covers both strategic and operational activities.

Our EIAs help to ensure that we:

  • identify whether people or groups with protected characteristics are excluded from or disadvantaged by any of the services or employment opportunities offered
  • ensure engagement with staff, service users and stakeholders to increase participation through the consultation process
  • understand the potential effects of the function, activity or decision by assessing the impacts on different groups internally and externally (if required)
  • ensure any adverse impacts and actions are identified to remove or mitigate them
  • guarantee decisions are transparent and based on evidence with clear reasoning
  • promote and embed equity in the policies and practices of the Partnership
  • help the Partnership to fulfil its legal duties under current equality legislation

The EIA should be an open and honest assessment conducted at the beginning or early stage of a process. This helps to ensure that inclusion and fairness is placed at the heart of everything we are doing.
