Volunteering

We offer volunteering opportunities across our services at Camden and Islington.

Our volunteer roles complement the work of our paid staff and enhance the service and experience provided to our patients/service users and their carers.

Volunteering is a great way to:

Contribute or give something back to your local community; develop your skills or experience; use your existing skills or experience to help others; meet new people and make friends; do something interesting and meaningful with your free time; and build your confidence.

All volunteers must be over 18 years of age. We will also require volunteers to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, Occupational Health check and reference checks. Ideally we would like volunteers to commit to at least six months volunteering as a minimum where possible.

Trolley Shop Volunteers

We run a trolley shop service for patients, staff and visitors at our inpatient hospital sites. The trolley shop sells a variety of items including: food, snacks and drinks. It is an important service for many who may not be able to leave the site and patients also enjoy the social contact of shopping from the trolley.

Restraint Debrief Volunteers

On occasions some patients on our inpatients settings must be restrained by staff for the safety of themselves or others. NICE guidelines advise that the patient should be given the opportunity to contribute to a debrief following any such interventions.

Patients may find it hard to engage with staff immediately following such incidents. Emotions can be high and patients may feel that staff shouldn’t have restrained them. Our specially trained debrief volunteers offer a debrief to patients who been restrained. The aim is to give patients a voice and the opportunity to reflect and feedback on the event from their perspective. This allows us to learn from our patients and hopefully reduce the number of such incidents in the future.
