The North London Forensic Service

The North London Forensic Service is a NHS tertiary forensic mental health service based at Chase Farm Hospital in the London Borough of Enfield.

We provide care and treatment to people aged over 18 who have a primary diagnosis of mental illness or learning disability and who are liable to be detained under the Mental Health Act (1983). The service supports those whose risk of harm to others or escape from hospital cannot be safely managed in other mental health settings and therefore require care and treatment within a secure mental health service.

How to refer

We have a standardised  referral form [docx] 99KB  detailing the information required. Please ensure this form is fully completed to allow us to assess and triage referrals appropriately. Please ensure you include a typed summary of the case, which contains details of the current diagnosis and treatment plan and attach any previous risk assessments. Failure to include all the relevant information may result in a delay in the referral being processed.

In cases of extreme urgency, telephone contact should be made with the on-call consultant for the North London Forensic Service, available through switchboard on 020 8702 3000.

Forms can be completed either digitally or handwritten and can be returned in the following ways:

  • Email: beh-tr.Forensic.referrals@nhs.net
