Why should I consider working in the prison service?

Rewarding work

Working in a prison means you will support people who have often never been helped before. If you are someone who likes to connect with others and gain trust, it offers huge job satisfaction.

Variety of work

Working in prisons is fast paced, challenging and varied, with lots of opportunities to work with people from different professional backgrounds. From prison officers keeping the prison safe and secure, to clinical professionals helping vulnerable people during a difficult time in their lives.

Supportive team

There's a real sense of camaraderie amongst staff and a very supportive culture. Our staff often say working with us feels like being part of a family.

Flexible roles to work around your life

Our roles are flexible because we understand the importance of work-life balance.

We do our best to accommodate peoples’ circumstances, so our roles can be part time, compressed and working patterns are varied.

Training and professional development

There are lots of opportunities for training and career progression and we have a strong culture of supporting professional development.

Challenge perceptions

There are many misunderstandings about what it is like to work within a prison. Prisons are a secure and safe place to work, with lots of support from the prison officers.

If you are considering working in a prison, try it. It could be the most fulfilling thing you do.
