Adult ADHD Clinic

  • The Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) service is a tertiary provision for people over 18 years of age and within the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey catchment areas. It provides specialist assessment and pharmacological treatment for Adult ADHD. It is a non-emergency service and there are no provisions for care co-ordination at present.

    At present, we offer new patient ADHD diagnostic assessments with titration of ADHD medication. We also run a 14-week adult ADHD life skills group, please be aware there are long waits for this and we only accept patients under our care.

How to access this service

You can be referred to our service by your GP or any other Mental Health Practitioner.

Once they have referred you to the service, your referral will be screened in our weekly meeting, and providing that you meet criteria for an ADHD assessment you will be added to our waiting list for a new patient assessment.

If you have already been diagnosed with ADHD within the NHS, there is an option for your GP to send through the details of this and you may be seen sooner if you do not need to be reassessed.

What to expect

There may be some things you need to do prior to your assessment such as find school reports, note down why you think you have ADHD, complete your BAARS questionnaires, bring supporting evidence and bring someone with you for support and who knows you well if possible. If you have time print and fill in our My handy History form [pdf] 58KB

Assessments may include the doctor gathering information about your childhood and adulthood, determining whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis and identifying any other mental health disorders that could be affecting you.

Once the assessment has finished, the doctor will write up a report which will be sent to you, your GP and the person who referred you for an assessment service. The report will include treatment recommendations where appropriate for you.

You do not have to treat your ADHD with medication if you do not want to. However, if you decide this is the best course of action for you, the doctor will help you find the right medication and dosage for your needs and life. This will be done very gradually in a process called ‘titration’. Once you are on a stable dose, we will transfer you back to your GP who will be able to keep prescribing you on that dose from now on.

Useful Information

We are based in the Springwell Centre on Barnet Hospital site. We offer appointments online using Attend Anywhere software (https://nhs.vc/beh-adult-adhd) and face to face at the Springwell Centre. We ask all patients to attend the clinic to collect their prescriptions.
