Islington and Haringey IPS Employment Trial - closed to new referrals at the end of 13 July 2018

The Islington and Haringey Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Employment Trial is a 24-month project ending on 31 December 2018, which stopped taking new referrals on Friday 13 July 2018.
Funded by NHS England and the London Borough of Islington and delivered by Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, almost 300 people have taken part in the trial. The participants have been randomly divided into group A (who receive support from our IPS service), and group B (who receive support from other local employment services, for comparison with the IPS group).

What is the trial aiming to find out?
Individual placement and support (IPS) employment services have been very successful for people with mental health conditions. This research tests how well IPS works for unemployed people with any type of long term health condition and/or disability, including both physical and mental health, who would like to start or get back into work.

This will enable the NHS to measure how effective IPS could be, by comparing outcomes for people who receive IPS employment support with those who do not. This information will help the borough to develop more effective employment support services and to make sure they are accessible and inclusive to anyone who wants to benefit from them.
You can find out more about IPS employment support by visiting the Centre for Mental Health website here visiting the Centre for Mental Health website here.

People in the IPS group – supported for the rest of the trial
If you have already been randomly included in the IPS group, then your support will continue until the trial ends on 31 December 2018. People still requiring support after this time will be able to receive it from other local services.

People in both groups – on-going contact to gather trial information
Researchers will follow the progress of every participant in both groups They will give each person a call 13, 26 and 52 weeks after the initial appointment with an employment specialist, to find out how they are getting on.

People referred but not yet in a group
If you were referred to the trial or referred yourself before the end of Friday 13 July 2018, then one of our team will be in touch to make sure that you are eligible and want to take part. It may take 6-12 weeks from the date we received your referral before you hear from us.

For everyone who takes part, the scheme is entirely voluntary. People can opt out at any time and have absolutely no obligation to continue. Nobody will be made to seek employment support if they do not want to.
