Choice and Control Peer Coaching Service

Our service is designed to work alongside clients to improve their quality of life by providing flexible coaching support.

Clients will be offered up to 10 hours of coaching sessions and these can be taken in a variety of ways in terms of timing and location. The Peer Coach will help clients to focus on what is important to them and how they want to improve their health and wellbeing. Being practitioners with lived experience of mental health and sometimes physical health issues, they share a real understanding of living with mental and physical health conditions.

The Choice and Control Peer Coaching Service is specifically for two groups of people:

  1. People with both a long term physical health problem that they have to manage and a mental health condition and
  2. People who are listed with their GPs as having a Severe Mental Illness (namely bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorder and other psychosis) who are at high risk of physical health issues
You are eligible for Choice and Control if you are:
  • Registered with an Islington GP or are a resident of Islington
  • You are over the age of 18 years
Our service helps users to link with relevant resources in the community, overcome internal and external barriers to achieving wellbeing goals and gain clarity in next steps to take to improve their lives.
The Peer Coaches have a great ability to help a person:
  • be heard
  • find hope
  • get connected to people, places and services
  • explore options to improve their quality of life

Peer Coaches undergo a rigorous training and recruitment process that includes training in coaching and engagement skills as well as local services and processes. We have at least yearly recruitment drives and are well linked with other local peer working initiatives so can assist potential peer coaches to find their career path.
