Ageing and memory

Please be aware that the coronavirus outbreak is affecting our Services for Ageing and Mental Health.

  • Services for Ageing and Mental Health has reduced face-to-face contact with older people in order to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus.  New dementia assessments are suspended and ongoing reviews will be carried out over the telephone.
  • In both our Memory Services and older people’s Community Mental Health Teams, we are ensuring that we are still able to offer a good service to our most vulnerable service users, including those who are acutely mentally unwell, require medication or have fragile care packages

We provide specialist services to people with care needs relating to mental illness and ageing. This work is carried out by SAMH – the Services for Ageing and Mental Health division.  SAMH’s work is wide ranging and covers a wide range of treatments therapies and services. Our community mental health teams deliver therapy to people with many different needs.

Memory Services
The Memory Services team assess and treat people with memory problems including patients and carers. With innovative projects like START (an evidence-based psychological intervention for carers), advance care planning and the “food for the brain” group we have become highly regarded in the treatment and detection of memory problems.

Community Recovery Service for Older People
Supports older people’s recovery by providing effective treatment designed to improve mental health, reduce the need for hospital admission and promote early discharge.

Dementia Day Services
The day services are offered to people with dementia and challenging behaviours, providing support both to service users and their carers.

Residential Liaison Services
Provide specific support to people living with dementia and with mental health needs in community residential care.

Continuing Care
Where the needs of people cannot be met within a community setting  there is provision  at the Garnet ward at Highgate Mental Health Centre.
