Carers play an important role in supporting people who use our services. Carers provide both emotional and practical support which can help others to live a more rewarding and independent life. If you provide help or support for a relative, friend of partner who has mental health problems then you are a carer.  C&I is committed in making sure that as a carer:

  • Your views are heard
  • You get the support that you need
  • You get all the necessary information that you may need

Being a carer is hard work.  There are so many demands on your time every day that it can be difficult to find time for yourself. That stress can build up, so looking after yourself is important when you're a carer. Keeping well reduces the risk of you not being able to look after someone because of a problem with your own health. In this section of the website you will find details about sources of help and information. You may also want to look at the NHS Carers website.

Download our helpful carer leaflets

If you're caring for someone who uses our services, please take a look at the downloadable leaflets at the top of this page. They include key information relating to specific services across the Trust, which you may find useful.

If you have any queries about the leaflets, please email Communications@Candi.nhs.uk.

Carers rights

As a carer you have specific legal rights and entitlements. Knowing your rights can help you to get the support that you need.

These rights for carers include:

  • the right to have your needs assessed by your local authority
  • the right to receive direct payments so that you can chose what services to have
  • rights in the workplace

Detailed information on your rights as a carer can be found on the NHS Choices website.
