Exhibition - Preview
Introduction and key note speeches by Leisha Fullick, Chair of Camden and Islington Foundation Trust, and by Professor Sir Simon Wessely Head of the Department of Psychological Medicine and Vice Dean for Academic Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry King’s College London.

The Way Ahead will exhibit artwork produced by veterans and serving men and women in order to raise awareness about the struggles they face during war and peace as well as revealing the value of the arts as a therapeutic and healing form of practice.
The exhibition is curated by The Arts Project for the London Veteran’s Services, Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. It brings together for the first time a range of organisations, including Combat Stress, Stoll and The Army Arts Society charities. All are striving to improve the physical, mental and spiritual lives of veterans and serving men and women from the military, navy and air force.
It will run from Friday 14 August – Thursday 22 October, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

1.The Way Ahead will include artwork produced in art and occupational therapy as well as pieces created for recreational purposes. The work includes both raw and finished pieces of work which reveal a commitment to the healing power of art. The exhibition will showcase a range of media, including painting, poetry, photography, and sculpture. It will present over 30 pieces from organisations and individual artists linked by the experience of war.
2.The exhibition has been generously funded by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust with the support of the London Veterans’ Assessment and Treatment Services (LVS) as well as the Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. The exhibition utilises a valuable exhibition report by researcher Erika Teichert.
3.The exhibition preview will take place Thursday 13/8/15 at 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm, including key note speeches at 6.00pm. The preview will include refreshments and live music from jazz chanteuse Florence Joelle and former soldier / art therapist performance artist Steve Pratt. Open to all but please RSVP to The Arts Project.
4.Selected work will be for sale. The prices include artists’ donations to related Charitable Funds.
