More than 400 people attend Discover Recovery event

14 March 2014

More than 400 people attended Camden's Discover Recovery event on 14 March.

Opened by the mayor of Camden, Jonathan Simpson and supported by Mitch Winehouse, Amy Winehouse's Dad, the event attracted service users, commissioners, as well as recovered drug and alcohol users.

Mr Winehouse described how supporting this event was what Amy would have wanted as she had had so much difficulty with drink and found great comfort in speaking with people who were on the road to recovery.

The day long drop in event celebrated and promoted recovery from drug and alcohol use in Camden.

The joint event was supported by C&I, Camden CCG, SHP, CRI and Camden Frontline.  The event was an opportunity for recovery peers, volunteers and staff to spread the message about recovery and to tell people about the range of support available.

Scores of local services came to the event offering information on harm minimisation, prescribing, detox and rehab options, counselling, relapse prevention, aftercare services, mutual aid, family support, advice and advocacy and wellbeing services.  There were also complimentary therapies, health checks, creative art and writing sessions as well as live music.
