Olga Cecilia Farach, Deputy Lead Governor and Islington Public Governor thanks Dal Babu on behalf the Board of Governors for representing North London Mental Health Partnership at the Governor Focus Conference. Olga sent us this report:
Non-Executive Director Dal Babu represented North London Mental Health Partnership at the Governor Focus Conference last month, speaking to Governors of other NHS Trusts, and answering questions.
Dal Babu shared his thoughts on how Governors can best support NHS trusts, working in a more integrated system, delivering quality healthcare. The event was being held for the seventh year and was the first face-to-face meeting since the pandemic. Organised by NHS Providers, the conference is a national conference for NHS Governors across the UK.
Sir Ron Kerr, Chair of NHS Providers, welcomed the delegates. Sir Julian Hartley, Chief executive of NHS Providers, gave an overview of the key issues facing the NHS and highlighted areas of concern for councils of governors. One of the attendees was Mark Price, Member Development Manager of the NHS Providers Governors programme, which runs training courses for Governors, including ones on diversity, inclusion, healthcare inequalities, and the role of governors.
Dal also sat on a panel discussing the governors' role in a sustained crisis. The panel also included John Adler, a member of the Governor Advisory Committee at NHS Providers and a Public Governor, Dr Patrick Fraser, an Assistant Director of Provider Policy for NHS England, and Niall Dickson, Chair of East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
They spoke about the NHS workforce being exhausted and said that trust boards are under pressure. There was discussion about waiting times and funding and high levels of demand. The panel said trusts are working hard to provide high quality services.
