The Trust Medical Director, Dr Vincent Kirchner, has formally launched a prestigious new partnership with BODY WORLDS London to raise awareness, increase understanding and educate the general public on the importance of mental health.
Body Worlds, located in the former Ripley’s museum on Piccadilly Circus, features more than 200 exhibits made of parts of real human bodies, which have been preserved using a technique called plastination.
The process is the invention of Dr Gunther von Hagens, who works with wife and creative director Dr Angelina Whalley to turn human remains into exhibits that uncover the workings of the human body – often doing so in curious poses such as playing tennis or sitting on swings.
The exhibition has visited more than 130 cities around the world since 1995 and attracted more than 47 million visitors as a touring show, but the new Piccadilly site will be a permanent, flagship site for the project.
Staff and service users attended the launch event at the exhibition's Piccadilly home and were able to tour the various displays, many of them with a strong mental health theme, underlining its inextricable link with physical health.
Vincent said: "Everyone has mental health - good or not so good - and we are delighted to be partnering with Body Worlds to highlight what each of us can do to improve it."
Peter Tabernal, CEO of BODY WORLDS London added: "We are incredibly proud to be collaborating with C&I on such an important subject. Physical and mental health are intrinsically linked and we are passionate about opening up the conversation and raising awareness on how best to look after our minds, bodies and souls."
C&I clinicians will be fronting a series of talks at the venue throughout Mental Health Awareness Week in May including ones on Perfectionism and Depression.
The venue is offering all NHS staff a discount of 25% on general entry at any time as follows:
Adults £19.50 (On the door price £25)
Child £14.50 (On the door price £18)
Please take your staff ID with you. Each NHS staff member can bring up to 3 people with them who can also utilise the discounted rate.
