Friday 27 April - all client sessions are cancelled this afternoon due to the incident at Tottenham Court Road The TSC provides specialist mental health care for post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) to children, adolescents and adults. Clients typically present with a range of symptoms related to severe anxiety and depression associated with a traumatic event. This may include being either the victim of or witness to a serious accident, rape, or other violent incident, or experiencing several such events, as is the case with most refugee clients. Refugees and asylum seekers account for over half of the referrals to the Clinic. They usually have experienced multiple traumatic events over an extended period of time, which have been further exacerbated by the stress of leaving their home, usually under dire circumstances, and by trying to adapt to a new life in this country. The Clinic's typical treatment modalities include a range of cognitive behavioural interventions. However, for many refugee clients a broader context of stabilisation and social support, such as assistance to secure stable housing and legal assistance, is required prior to mental health treatment. |
